Grand Finale:
Chicago Wraps up Fashion Focus
By Yanira Garcia

Millennium Park was the beginning of many fine things to come. The over anticipated park, which finally opened recently after a long awaited arrival, set the stage to another anticipation. Rooftop Terrace at Millennium Park set the stage for Fresh Faces in Fashion from Gen Art. With the show taking place from New York to Miami, the third annual show really is setting a standard here in Chicago. In a city where fashion is booming and talent is being spawn from the cracks in the loop, it is great to get the recognition this city deserves.

The show presented by the American Express IN: Chicago card, was a huge success and one of the best fashion shows all year. Venezuelan Actress and Supermodel, Patricia Velasquez, was the master of ceremony for the event of the year! The show featured 9 exceptional local designers.

Lara Miller, whose knits graced the runway in rich, vibrant colors or Shane Gabier whose women’s wear was drench with masculinity and yet was so feminine. Meanwhile, Kent Nielsen kept his collection mannish with a refreshingly dose of cool and a spectacular performance by his models. Orlando Espinoza’s women’s collection was so carefree yet so full of Chicago’s sophisticated style. Doris Ruth was vivacious and youthful, in better words with would be from a woman playful at heart! The show came to a close with Michelle Tan, whose collection is indescribable. Her progressive flair was evident from her girly tops to structured-cropped pants.

Accessories Designers were showcased at Rooftop’s pre-show festivities. Those designers were Ifean yi-C huku, Jill Alberts , and Zoë Oliver . For those ever so accessory crazed, visit for website information.

It is truly an honor to be ultimately acknowledged as a city oozing with panache. And this is only the beginning of our young series of events.
