As part of Fashion Focus Chicago, Marshall Field’s on State Street celebrated the first USA opening of the World of JLo shop, which was also accompanied by an appearance of Jennifer Lopez, and followed by a charity fashion show that featured JLo and Sweetface designs.
Jennifer Lopez launched her signature sportswear collection, JLO by Jennifer Lopez, in 2001. In April of that year, she teamed up with Andy Hilfiger to create the JLO brand holding company, Sweetface Fashion Company. In 2002, the company expanded internationally to Canada and Central America and, with the partnership of Crocus International, opened its first JLO boutique in Russia in 2004.
At Olympus Fashion Week in NYC last February, Jennifer Lopez and Andy Hilfiger showcased the Fall/Holiday ‘05 JLO and Sweetface collections. The positive response enabled the collections to appear in stores this fall.
This brings us up to date: the World of JLo Shop, which is located on the 2nd floor of Marshall Field’s on State Street, is the first JLO boutique to launch in the United States. The entire empire of Jennifer Lopez is housed there and features the clothing, swimwear, lingerie, fragrances, eyewear, jewelry, hats, gloves, scarves, and handbags, watches and footwear. Phew!
Her appearance brought in screaming fans that packed Marshall Field’s just to get a glimpse of the entrepreneur. “I love Chicago!” she proclaimed as she attempted to give her speech over the cries of the people on three levels of the store.
Shortly after her appearance, guests who purchased tickets were invited up to the 9 th floor for a cocktail reception before the fashion show. Hors de oeuvres and drinks were served, but the most popular item that seemed to be in everyone’s hand were pink and green bottles of “Cocktails by Jenn” in Cosmopolitan and Apple Martini concoctions. Although the general consensus was that Jennifer Lopez was also branching out into alcohol distribution, it was not the same Jenn. False alarm! Within the hour, the doors opened and the guests were seated to view the JLo and Sweetface Collections.
Diamond-like pieces were strewn across the floor and a movie projection of “neon lights” designs played in the background. Creams, browns, oranges, and the occasional splash of teal dominated the scheme, along with cashmere, various fur, and suede.
The ticketed charity fashion show benefited the Children’s Memorial Hospital’s Pediatric Research Initiatives. The benefit raised more than $40,000! This show is also the first recreation of the fashion show that took place at the NYC Olympus Fashion Week in February.
In addition to shopping at Marshall Field’s on State Street, JLo and Sweetface Collections can also be purchased at www.ShopJLo.com.
