Runway darling and designer-to-the-stars Nanette Lepore, who is known for her sophisticated, flirty styles, created her first couture look at the age of nine. After outfitting a neighbor in a gypsy bedspread and beaded choker, Nanette stood in the front yard with a handmade “Lepore” sign, accurately forecasting her future as one of today’s leading contemporary designers.
With a celebrity roster of fans that includes Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mena Suvari, Sandra Bullock and Angela Bassett, Lepore’s flagship boutique is one of the most sought-after destinations in SoHo. Although certain designs are rumored to have inspired catfights among rock stars, Lepore takes it all in stride—giving front-row priority to VIPs like her mother, husband Bob and daughter Violet.
From a precocious nine-year-old to a determined F.I.T. student, Nanette’s creative parents—a fabulously stylish mother and abstract painter-father—have always encouraged her creativity. After finishing school and marrying artist Robert Savage, Nanette’s supportive husband convinced her to strike out on her own.
The couple set up shop in a penthouse office in the garment district. It quickly became “celebration central” for poets and painters who would bounce ideas off one another while stargazing on the roof. Lepore admits, "It was fun central with lots of work thrown in!" Her Bohemian lifestyle remains a theme in Nanette's creativity, and friends, family and fun continually inspire her.
Today, Lepore’s feminine creative flair is extended throughout her fashion designs that are easily recognizable with her quirky-yet-girly sense of style. Her obsession with vintage is clearly reflected throughout her seasonal collections, and she is not afraid to work with color, pattern and unique fabrics. She has an innate sense of taking a modern look and adding a retro-twist.
The Nanette Lepore collection is sold at the New York City flagship store on 423 Broome Street , her LA boutique on South Robertson, and at approximately 500 speciality stores throughout the U.S. and international markets including Tokyo , Hong Kong , London and Paris . Lepore will launch a Los Angeles boutique in summer 2003 and a premier fragrance in 2004.
In Chicago you can find Nanette Lepore colection in Departement Stores (Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom) and Butiques (Tengerine and Ms. Priss)
